Artist statement

My primary medium is watercolor and I would describe my style as representational with a dreamlike softness.  As a lover of nature, I enjoy painting still life and landscape subjects.  I feel that I can best express myself through the use of watercolor and I especially delight in seeing the translucent result when water and paint merge on paper.  The challenge of controlling these elements gives me a feeling of exhilaration.

I have also been experimenting with monotype, which is painting on plexiglass and printing on dampened paper.  I find this process challenging because the outcome is not always predictable.  In addition, I have recently become interested in pastel.  With pastel I am able to portray some of the same soft qualities as watercolor with slightly more intensity.  I have, in a few instances, combined the two mediums together.

I take great pleasure in exhibiting and sharing my work with others.
